A set of four nineteenth century botanical colour lithographs from L'illustration horticole edited by Charles Antoine Lemaire (1800 - 1871) a Belgian botanist and botanical author and a professor of classical literature at the university of Paris.
L'Illustration horticole, a botanical publication featuring detailed illustrations of plants, flowers and trees that was first published in 1854 in Gand, Belgium, by the printing house of F. and E. Gyselnyck. The publication was known for its high-quality colour lithographs, which were created by some of the most talented artists and lithographers of the time. Each issue of L'Illustration horticole focused on a specific plant or group of plants and included detailed descriptions of their characteristics, growing habits, and uses.
