A set of six antique hand-coloured folio copper plate prints by Abraham Munting (1626 - 1683) for Naauwkeurige Beschryving Der Aardgewassen (Accurate Description of Terrestrial Plants) which was published posthumously in1696 by Pieter van der Aa & Francois Halma, Leyden & Utrecht, Netherlands. The Latin names of the species are presented on ribbon-like scrolls or tablets.
Muntings was a Dutch botanist and artist who studied medicine and botany as a young man and travelled extensively. He was a professor of botany and chemistry at the University of Groningen and in1658 following the death of his father, Henricus Munting (1583-1658), he took overy the direction of the famous Hortus Haren a botanical garden in Groningen, Netherlands.
They are mounted and presented in gold bamboo frames. The price is for the set, but the are available individually for £550.
