A set of three early 19th century Copeland & Garrett platters, a fluted bowl embossed with undulating rim rising from a spreading, scrolled and gilt detailed pedestal foot and five plates with stamp on the base and pattern number 6702. Provenance: the Peto Family, formerly of Chedington Court, Dorset.
On 1st March 1833 William Taylor Copeland, William Copeland’s son, acquired the Spode & Copeland business in partnership with a Thomas Garrett until 1847. During this period the factory was the largest in land area and ovens rivalled only by Davenport.
During this partnership the factory’s productions were marked ‘Copeland and Garrett’ Typical wares produced during the Copeland and Garrett period were in the fashionable Rococo style.
